About H.A.R.D. #1
At Hammond Area Recreation District #1 (H.A.R.D. #1), we believe that our sports and recreational programs and facilities bring neighbors together. Chappapeela Sports Park, Mitchell Memorial Park, and Zemurray Park serve athletes and families in Hammond and the surrounding area with the mission to create a safe, community-centered space where athletes young and old can play, learn, and enjoy the beauty of a healthy lifestyle.

The H.A.R.D. #1 Story
The Hammond Area Recreation District #1 was created by ordinance of the Tangipahoa Parish Council in the mid-1990s. The district includes most of the corporate limits of the City of Hammond and the Seventh Ward, bordered on the west by the Tangipahoa/Livingston Parish boundary and bordered on the east by the Tangipahoa River. On the south side, H.A.R.D. #1 shares a border with the Ponchatoula Area Recreation District.
Our growth has resulted in the expanded development of green space, over 15 sports programs, as well as splash pads, walking trails, and multi-use facilities that serve thousands of local residents each year.

Our Funding
Hammond Area Recreation District #1 is funded through local taxpayer dollars to maintain and improve our community parks, ensure modern, safe facilities, and further expand our recreational program offerings to meet the needs and expectations of our rapidly growing community. Every dollar contributed to H.A.R.D. #1 is an investment in the lives of Hammond area families. We’re committed to building better spaces for everyone to enjoy!
Commitment to Park Improvements
It’s our goal to always maintain our parks to the highest level, keeping them fresh, fun, and ready for play for the whole family. We’re committed to continuously improving our playgrounds, fields, trails, and multi-use facilities to meet the expectations of residents in our community.
